THE HOSPICE PHILOSOPHY . . .
is beautifully illustrated by Dr. Cicely Saunders who opened the
first modern-day hospice in London, England:
"You matter to the last moment of your life,
and we will do all we can, not only to help you die peacefully, but
to live until you die."
WHAT IS HOSPICE?
A special kind of caring . . .
when people and their families are living with a terminal illness.
A special kind of caring . . .
that keeps terminally ill patients as pain free and as comfortable as possible.
A special kind of caring . . .
that provides compassionate and humane care in the patients home
surrounded by loved ones.
A special kind of caring . . .
that strives to keep patients alert so their last days are lived with
quality and dignity.
A special kind of caring . . .
that emphasizes patients & families determining what care is best
for them.
A special kind of caring . . .
that strives to ensure that no one faces death alone.
HOSPICE can be summarized with the following:
Helping families through the natural
dying process
Open talk about feelings and fears
Support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Pain & symptom control to alleviate suffering
Interaction with team members to
coordinate care
Care is based on individual need
Expect to experience hope, relief & comfort

HOW IS HOSPICE PAID FOR?
Hospice care is a benefit of Medicare, Medicaid, and many private
insurances. Agency fund raising allows Hospice of Hope to provide
care for families with no hospice insurance benefits.
HOW IS A HOSPICE REFERRAL MADE?
Referral to Hospice may be made by the primary care physician, family
members, friends, clergy, or health professionals. The physician must
certify that the patient has a terminal illness and qualifies for hospice.
HOSPICE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
There are many volunteer opportunities, please look on the volunteers
page for more information.

CAMP HOPE INFORMATION AND APPLICATION
CAMP HOPE INFORMATION AND APPLICATION
2008 Camp Dates are: August 20th, 21st, 22nd
Camp Hope is a Bereavement Camp providing age-appropriate bereavement
services for children ages 6-17 who have experienced the death of a
loved one.
Camp Hope provides a safe environment for children who have
experienced the loss of someone they love. The staff and volunteers
involved in Camp Hope plan a camp experience that helps the campers
express their grief, find others with the same experiences and
promote self-esteem and feelings of self-worth. Children are referred
to camp by school counselors from schools in Bay, Genesee, Lapeer,
Saginaw and Tuscola Counties. You may submit an application for Camp
Hope without a referral as well.
Hospice of Hope believes in the need for camp and offers this
overnight camping experience to each child free of charge.
If you have any questions or do not understand any of the application
questions, please contact Jane Olivier at LHCA Hospice of Hope at
(989)652-4663 or jolivier@lhminc.org
