FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lutheran Homes to Acquire The Manors Frankenmuth, Michigan - Lutheran Homes of Michigan (LHM), headquartered in Frankenmuth, announced today it will acquire The Manors, a three-unit senior living campus in Saginaw. Lutheran Homes of Michigan is a non-profit, Christian agency that provides residential living and skilled home care services to hundreds of seniors in Michigan. LHM offers services in Michigan through three nursing/assisted living facilities; a low-income housing complex; two home health care agencies; and a hospice organization. The acquisition includes McBrite Manor, a facility for independent seniors that has 103 private apartments; Shattuck Manor, with 140 private apartments and some services for seniors who need assistance with daily activities; and Meadow View Manor, a home-like community for 40 seniors who suffer from memory loss. With The Manors, LHM will have the capacity to provide residential services to an additional 300 seniors in Michigan. This significant growth makes the organization the largest non-profit provider of residential services for seniors in the Tri-Cities, and ranks it fifth in Michigan. LHM will be in the Top 100 nationwide. No other organization in the Saginaw area provides such a complete array of senior care services - from home care and hospice to senior apartments, assisted living, skilled nursing, rehab and dementia care. "Lutheran Homes of Michigan has been entrusted with an awesome responsibility to continually reflect Christian values in compassionate service to our elderly," said David Gehm, President and Chief Executive Officer of LHM. "The addition of The Manors, a respected campus of senior apartments, is a natural extension of our services. The purchase also is perfectly aligned with LHM's strategic direction, which calls for a diversified portfolio of senior housing for the elderly at all stages of need. LHM is acquiring The Manors campus from the Dr. Samuel and Patricia Shaheen family, long-time developers and community leaders. Dr. Shaheen stated, "I've decided to slow down. Lutheran Homes of Michigan is a good match for The Manors. We are very pleased that an organization with the history and reputation of Lutheran Homes will continue the high quality for which The Manors is knows. They are a Christian, non-profit healthcare provider that will have the same commitment to our staff and residents that we have had. Others have pursued the purchase of our incomparable senior housing complex, but my family did not feel they were worthy. The Shaheen family is committed to aiding LHM with a successful transition and with the least possible disruption to our dedicated staff and our extended family of resident." "The more we learned about the Manors, and the commitment to quality the Shaheen family has demonstrated, the more respect we gained for all they have accomplished at the Manors," Gehm said. According to Gehm, the acquisition will be finalized May 1, 2004. He also said residents and staff of The Manors should not be affected by the sale. "Our efforts over the next several months will be devoted to integrating The Manors into the mission and philosophy of Lutheran Homes," Gehm said. "As importantly, we will be focused on maintaining the high quality of service and care that residents have come to expect from The Manors."
