SPECIAL CARE UNIT

The Warm Feeling of "Home"

Our Special Care Unit provides the quality of care necessary for those who have special needs due to memory loss or Alzheimer's disease.


Philosophy

To promote a secure environment for residents experiencing memory loss, dementia, and/or Alzheimer's disease. To provide a way of life to those residents, who through their actions, may cause physical harm and/or trauma to themselves or others.

The Home is committed to enhancing the resident's quality of life and enabling each resident to enjoy and celebrate life, laughter, friends, relationships, and their own spirituality.


Objectives

It is the goal of the "Special Care Unit" to promote each resident's physical, mental, social, and spiritual needs. To provide a safe environment to maximize and maintain their level of personal dignity, self-care, and independence for as long as possible.

We are committed to providing the highest level of care for our residents.


Activity Program:

  • Activities of daily living

  • Sensory stimulation

  • Music and art therapy

  • Devotional activities

  • Social dining in dining room

  • Small group interactions

  • One-to-one interventions

  • Special entertainment

  • Rest periods (daily) throughout the day


Safe Environment

  • Private room to promote dignity

  • Home-like environment with pleasant furnishings

  • Non-skid surfaces

  • Supervision with crafts and events

  • Safety handrails in bathroom

  • Name tags on all staff

  • Name and picture of resident by their door


Controlled noise and interruptions

  • Activity areas that promote opportunities for participation

  • Secured Unit to decrease wandering and allow freedom to resident with safety in mind.


Specially Trained Staff

  • One charge nurse per shift

  • Two Certified Nursing Assistants per shift

  • Specially trained staff are dedicated to promoting the dignity, independence, and self-esteem of each resident living in the Special Care Unit.

  • One-two Activity Assistants 9 a.m.-7 p.m. seven days per week

  • Continual training on topics

    • Trauma of bathing

    • Communicating with family members

    • Combativeness and other behaviors

    • Increase knowledge of Alzheimer, dementia and related illnesses.

There is no extra charge for special care giving.
