NEWS for the Friends of the Lutheran Home Care Agency

The Lutheran Home Care Agency is a unique Home Care provider. As a certified agency, it provides Skilled Nursing, Home Health Aide, Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies and Medical Social Services to clients of all faiths who live in Bay, Saginaw, Genesee and Tuscola counties.
"How is it unique?" you might ask.
Because the agency is non-profit and a subsidiary of the Lutheran Homes of Michigan, Inc., the philosophy, mission and resulting services are based on Judeo-Christian principles and carried out in the spirit of Christ's love and caring for all.
When one is suffering, he/she needs expertise and skillful care along with the kind of concern, encouragement and presence that "Christian Care" provides.
Our nurse case-managers assess the needs and see that the person is given the best services in order to recover and stay well. This can include care, teaching, therapy and at times, referral to other community resources. The patient's doctor is kept informed and directs the nurse throughout the process. The outcome then is the best it can be, with the client's greatest potential being recognized.
CHOICE
The issue of Choice has been very publicized and sometimes overused, making me reluctant to even use it. When it comes to Home Care, however, the word Choice becomes paramount.
If one were in a situation where medical management, care or therapy were needed, it would be very important to choose the right agency.
Because it is so hard to make an informed choice in the midst of a crisis situation, it is wise to give some prayerful thought beforehand - before you invite these people of an agency into YOUR HOME!
Areas of consideration might be:
1. The Agency's philosophy and mission
Does it align with your belief about health, life and death?
2. The Agency's employment practices
Are the staff knowledgeable and well trained?
Can you feel comfortable having staff in your home?
Do the employees like what they are doing?
Is the staff dependable?
3. The approach to your care
Will all of the staff caring for you know your unique needs?
Will you have involvement in decision making about your care?
Will you be able to get along once the services have ended?
You can answer a resounding "Yes" to all these questions when you consider our agency. The agency's goal - to provide "Christian Care for Loved Ones" - values life and aims to provide comfort and healing.
The staff is hired after agency's thorough reference checking and scrutiny. Extensive orientation, training and supervision are provided. We value our employees, thus every effort is made to show appreciation through excellent compensation and work support systems. High standards are maintained. Each client is equally valued. Individualized approaches are developed in accordance with the physician's directions. Services are provided to give our clients the best opportunity to have success at goals, mutually set. Staff also provide resources from the community, as appropriate, to assure that the person can remain at home with the highest level of comfort and functioning.
So, remember, YOU HAVE A CHOICE. Just ask your physician, social worker or nurse to call us; or . . . you, a relative or a friend may give us a call. We'll be here if you need us.
