God has blessed the American population with an abundance of choices of food. Unlike some of the foreign countries we do not have to worry about if we eat, rather it is what we eat. Understanding the dangers of summertime foods will help keep you and your family safer and healthier.
Hand washing could be the key.
Properly washing your hands could eliminate nearly half of all food borne illness and reduce the spread of the common cold and the flu virus.
Wash your hands with warm, soapy water before and after handling raw meats including poultry and seafood.
Always wash the front and the back of your hands, in-between the fingers and under the nails.
Dry your hands with paper towel, never dry up blood or liquid from the meat with a towel that you leave in the kitchen.
A smelly dishcloth or towel is a sure sign of bacteria - change and wash them frequently. Using bleach in the wash will help eliminate the growth of bacteria.
Cooking to the proper temps.
Insufficient cooking of poultry, seafood, and egg dishes is believed to be responsible for a significant amount of food borne illness each year.
It is important that you refrigerate your foods as soon as you buy them. During the summer months don't leave foods our for more than one hour.
Make sure that your refrigerate temperature is below 40 degrees. The danger zone, where the bacteria will multiply rapidly, is 40 to 140 degrees.
Using a few of these tips will greatly reduce you and your family's chances of foodborne illnesses and help you have a blessed and safe summer. God has blessed us with the talent of growing and raising food. It is up to all of us to prepare and store it properly.
Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." - John 6:35
"I am the living bread that came down from heaven." - Jesus Christ
