Lutheran Home - Monroe
2002 Volunteer of the Year
Ann Stanifer -
Always Quick to Say 'Yes'
The Lutheran Home - Monroe is privileged to have Ann Stanifer as its
Volunteer of the Year for 2003. Ann is well known at the Monroe Home.
As a member of the Ladies Guild she has organized card parties and
bake sales, purchased resident gifts at Christmas and birthdays,
served on committees to assist with meals at resident parties,
encouraged ladies to join the Guild, brought in baked goods, been a
public relations representative in the community and her church, and
presented many ideas for Guild events. She is currently serving as
Ladies Guild President.
Ann worked as a pharmacist, raising two children with her husband
Richard, who served on the Lutheran Homes of Michigan Board of
Directors for eight years. Richard often accompanies Ann to the Home
to help with various activities. One of Ann and Richard's favorite
things to do is travel, visiting their children out of state or going
to Germany.
Ann enjoys opening her home, extending her gift of hospitality to her
German relatives and friends. As a member of the Ladies Aid at
Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe, she often offers that hospitality
for church related activities.
Ann's mother, Elsie Ruettinger, was a resident of the Home, as were
many of the people from her congregation at Holy Ghost Lutheran
Church. She continues to visit with residents and always has a quick
smile and is ready to say "yes" when asked to do anything
that she feels would benefit them.
Our love, prayers and a thankful heart are extended to Ann. May He
keep her in His service and continue to bless her and the others she touches.

Lutheran Home - Frankenmuth
2003 Volunteer of the Year
Bob Schroeder -
Drives with Humor, Compassion
Bob Schroeder began volunteering at the Lutheran Home - Frankenmuth
in 1995, as a volunteer van driver. Initially, he came to help out a
little, as needed. But, those who know Bob also know that he puts his
whole heart into anything he does. He has such a positive impact on
the lives he touches.
His volunteer job description states that he will transport residents
to and from physician offices for evaluations, treatments and tests.
Bob has faithfully gone above and beyond the call of duty since he
began his journey here. He not only provides reassurance, kindness,
and humor to those in his care while traveling in the van or waiting
at the doctor's offices, but he also offers transportation to
residents for short visits to their homes and families. Quite often,
Bob volunteers to take residents to their homes for a family
gathering or a special celebration.
Bob is originally from Grand Rapids, however he lived most of his
life in the Farmington area. In his younger years, he was stationed
in Wyoming while in the Air Force. After completing military service,
Bob serviced computers for IBM until the time of his retirement. We
are thankful that Bob, and his wife Dottie, moved to Frankenmuth
about eight years ago. He has five children Barbara, Charles, Thomas,
and twins Daniel and Donald and six grandchildren (with one set of twins!).
Residents and those who have the privilege of working with
him,"thinking the world" of Bob. We consider ourselves very
blessed to have Bob Schroeder a part of our lives and are thankful
for the many hours he shares with us. Thank you, Bob, and
congratulations on being our Volunteer of the Year.

Lutheran Home - Livonia
2003 Volunteer of the Year
Wanda Corey - A Volunteer at Heart
Wanda Corey became acquainted with Lutheran Homes when her pastor
asked her if she would act as a delegate representing St. Paul's
Lutheran Church in Farmington Hills as a member of Lutheran Homes of
Michigan. She accepted this role around the time the Lutheran Home -
Livonia was being built. After attending one of the first meetings
called to order at the new facility, Wanda decided to volunteer her
time there and has been doing so ever since.
We feel blessed to have Wanda's time and talents at work in our home.
During her volunteering, she as given 385 hours of her time, helping
with resident birthday parties, bingo, the cookie walk, trips, room
visits with residents and chapel services. Even while eye surgery
kept her from driving Wanda was willing to give all of her support to
our residents. Thank you Wanda, for your generous spirit! We honor
your efforts with the Volunteer of the Year award.
Wanda was born in Evart, Michigan and graduated from Belding High
School. She has four wonderful children with her late husband Leon
and is a proud grandmother of eleven. A volunteer at heart, Wanda has
shared countless hours with other organizations, including: Lutheran
Home in Wyoming, Michigan; the Blue Birds; Campfire Girls in
Southbend and Hastings; Inner City of Akron, Ohio; and Hawthorne
Mental Clinic in Cleveland.

Home Care Agency & Hospice of Hope
2003 Volunteer of the Year
Bernice Curtis - Lends Library a
Labor of Love
We at the Lutheran Home Care Agency - Hospice of Hope wish to
recognize Bernice Curtis as 2003 Volunteer of the Year. Bernice's
numerous skills and talents have proved invaluable to our agency.
Bernice took on the huge task of organizing our newly established
Lending Library. She went above and beyond in creating a system for
lending our resources to patients and their families. Bernice visited
area churches to see how they handled their libraries, and researched
and ordered necessary supplies. Bernice searched the Internet for
information about each publication, in order to provide staff with a
synopsis of each book. This allows the staff to select those
resources that will be most helpful to their patients and families.
This colossal endeavor was met with great determination and enthusiasm.
Bernice provides a vital service to the Bereavement Component of our
Hospice, by serving as the data entry person. She helps in keeping
the Bereavement team running smoothly while saving them countless
hours. Bernice has been a competent and dedicated volunteer since May
of 2000. The staff at the Lutheran Home Care Agency - Hospice of Hope
are truly blessed to have such a committed and caring volunteer.
