vol'un'teer (transitive and intransitive verb) somebody who works without being paid. To merely say that Julie is somebody who works without getting paid would not do justice to her generosity of time and talents. Julie began volunteering at the Lutheran Home in 2001 as a craft program assistant. Through the years she added many other duties that include designing, shopping, and coordinating the projects to be made by the residents for their craft bazaars. She also is an integral part of the Eden Alternative committee, serving as the Publicity chairperson. Julie also assists with the garden club, resident outings, and other projects in the activities department. In 2005 Julie was a member of the planning committee for Operation Enduring Thanks. She not only assisted in the coordination of this remarkable event, but also made the trip to selflessly assist with the Veterans on this trip of a lifetime. Julie lives with her husband, Richard in Frankenmuth. They have two children Aubrey and Dereck. She also volunteers at her church, Ames United Methodist-Saginaw and is involved in the Frankenmuth Herbal Society. Tender-hearted, hard working, and dedicated are but a few words to describe Julie and what she means to the residents, staff, and family members at the Lutheran Home Frankenmuth. Her many hours of volunteering have a great impact on the lives many. We are truly blessed to have Julie share a portion of her valuable time with us.
Anita lives in Plymouth and is a member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church. She is involved in the Senior ministry and the Daytime Stitchers group. Before retiring as a public school teacher, Anita worked in River Rouge, Barranquilla, Colombia and Livonia, where she taught blind and visually impaired students. As a volunteer at the Lutheran Home Livonia, Anita assists at two Sunday services a month, works with the Coffee & Conversation group once a week and is on the Helping Hands Volunteer Corps board. She also is a member of the Peer Volunteers at the University of Michigan Turner Geriatric clinic. We thank Anita for all of her help to the residents & staff of the Lutheran Home Livonia.
This year, Lutheran Home Care Agency & Hospice of Hope wish to honor two sisters as our Co-Volunteers of the Year who have been faithful volunteers for our agency for over 6 years. These two women have participated in a number of our projects and assignments. They have been involved in our annual Garage Sale event, our Sewing Bees, Hearts for Hospice Sales Campaigns, Memorial Services, Scrapbooking events as well as our many mass-mailing projects. Beyond these activities each has taken on specific on-going assignments that advance our work. Marie has accepted responsibility for sending out the monthly Journeys Newsletters, a publicatino that our hospice families receive as part of bereavement care follow-up.
They not only provide cost-saving services, but also share a positive and willing spirit with us when they visit the agency. We are truly blessed to have them on our team.
The Manors' Volunteer of the Year is Corinne Fini. She is a resident of McBrite Manor and is very active in the events on our campus. Corinne has assisted in numberous projects that helped raise over $1500 through the Christmas Bazaar. She also helps with mailings, newsletters, and serves on a number of committees. Most recently, Corinne was featured in one of The Manors' radio commercials. We are truly grateful to have Corinne as a volunteer, as well as an integral part of The Manors' family.
