2007 Volunteers of the Year
Lutheran Homes of Michigan wishes to thank the men and women who
provide countless hours of their time, through volunteering, to make
a difference in the lives of the elderly. Each ministry site
recognizes one outstanding person each year. The 2007 Volunteers of
the Year are:

2007 Volunteers of the Year
We Applaud You
A VOLUNTEER is a person who is a light to others, giving witness in a
mixed-up age, doing well and willingly the tasks at hand; namely,
being aware of another's needs and doing something about it.
A VOLUNTEER is a person who remembers to do the thing to make other
people happy, who takes the loneliness out of the alone by talking to
them, who is concerned when others are unconcerned, who has the
courage to be a prophet and to say the things that have to be said
for the good of all.
A VOLUNTEER is a person whose charity is fidelity, who is faithful in
an unfaithful world, grateful in an ungrateful world, giving when all
about are grasping, listening when others need to tell about their
fears and problems.
BONNIE
KREGEL - LUTHERAN HOME - MONROE
Bonnie has devoted many volunteer hours and has unselfishly shared
her many talents and gifts with residents and staff alike. She has
been a faithful servant for over 15 years, serving on the Ladies
Guild, where she is presently serving as its president. Bonnie enjoys
creating and authoring a Centenarian Biography of past and present
residents who have reached the milestone of "100" years
along with a framed photo that hangs in the main hallway.
Bonnie's generosity of her time extends beyond the walls of the
Lutheran Home Monroe - she volunteers at her church (Holy Ghost
Lutheran) with Thrivent and Habitat for Humanity.

MARTHA
HUBER - LUTHERAN HOME - FRANKENMUTH
Martha began volunteering at the Lutheran Home Frankenmuth in 1978.
She faithfully leads a weekly Bible class, spends time visiting
residents so they don't feel lost or forgotten, and puts her faith in
action with everyone she meets. Martha encourages spiritual growth,
compassion and learning opportunities for our residents.

CHARLES
ROACH - LUTHERAN HOME - LIVONIA
"Mr. Piano Man" is the nickname of Charles Roach who has
been volunteering at the Lutheran Home Livonia. Charles is a self
taught pianist and plays a multitude of music styles from memory.
During each visit, Charles shares a bit of himself by giving each
resident a copy of a new poem he has written. His talent for bringing
joy, a smile, and a little foot tapping is enjoyed by residents and staff.

RUTH
KROEPEL - LUTHERAN HOME CARE AGENCY & HOSPICE OF HOPE
At a young age, Ruth was taught by her parents a grade school
teachers to "work hard ~ be diligent ~ kind ~ and helpful in all
instances," and she has done this all her life. She has been a
faithful volunteer since 1995. Ruth's assistance has benefited many
people and activities, including her tireless help with mailings,
sewing bees, the Hearts-for-Hospice campaign and annual garage sale
fundraising event.

JUDY
SPERRY - THE MANORS
Judy has been a volunteer for The Manors for the past year and a
half. After learning about the residents' need for a seamstress, Judy
joins her daughter, who works in the housekeeping department at
McBrite, almost everyday. Judy's unselfishness, her ever present
smile, and genuine heart are what people notice about her.
Judy also volunteers for local hospice organizations, which includes
visiting and providing transportation for patients.

Lutheran Homes of Michigan has been blessed with many talented,
gifted and Godly volunteers over the years who serve unselfishly and
humbly. May God continue to bless these dedicated individuals as they
witness to Him through word and deed. |
